STATEMENT: “Soundtrack” includes many of my paintings that followed the path from musical inspiration to artistic expression. The artwork is not necessarily a literal depiction of the song that inspired it. Rather, it is my attempt to capture the mood and message that the song evoked for me, so it is extremely personal.
October 2023: Painting “My Moth Bouquet” awarded first place in the Lancaster County
Council of the Arts' annual Marian Hagin's juried exhibition.
August 2023: Painting "Stash" exhibited in the
South Carolina Watermedia Society's 46th annual national competition.
October 2022: Awarded first place in the Lancaster County
Council of the Arts' annual Marian Hagin's juried exhibition for the
watercolor, "Tuesday it Rained."
Comments by the juror, Susan Irish: "Hyper photorealism
in watercolor is a difficult combination. See the drops of rain glistening atop
the umbrella. Well done. The artist captured the subject in action, inviting
the viewer to be part of a very private moment. The title, evocative of a diary
entry, adds to the moodiness of the painting."
PAWS ON PARADE
Gina participated in the Lancaster County Council of the Arts' "Paws on Parade" Litter #2, a public art project that places creatively designed fiberglass dogs and cats around Lancaster County. Learn more about Paws on Parade.
She painted a large cat as an homage to Frida Kahlo. “Frida
Kat-lo” is now installed in front of the Kershaw County Public Library (in Lancaster County, South Carolina).
This small cat is a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh.
Gina's third project For Paws on Parade was a K-9 "police officer" named
Valor, who resides just outside the Lancaster Police Department. Valor was
featured in a local PSA about the Lancaster Schools' resource officers; view
the PSA here.
ILLUSTRATION
Gina created a painting for the cover of the book, "The
Innkeeper," by author Alan R. Mulak, along with two interior
illustrations. This book of intriguing short stories is available on Amazon in
both print and Kindle editions — purchase it here.
